The Hardest Wind Numbers in Florida, and the Label Will Not Tell You

Monroe County is not in the High Velocity Hurricane Zone, and it carries higher design wind speeds than the counties that are. That puts the whole burden on the calculation for your opening — which is exactly what we quote from.

Give us the mile marker and tell us whether the living floor is up on piers. Those two answers shape the job more than the window does.

Highest

Monroe carries the highest design wind speeds in Florida

Not HVHZ

And it is governed by statewide approval, not a Miami-Dade NOA

What we install

Six opening types, every one of them specified against numbers no other Florida county has to meet.

The difference

Why people call us rather than a volume installer

The highest wind figures in the state, under the lower-tier approval regime

Monroe County is not in the High Velocity Hurricane Zone — that is Miami-Dade and Broward only — yet it carries Florida's highest design wind speeds. So the stricter test protocol does not apply where the numbers are hardest. Everything therefore rests on the calculation for your specific opening, and unlike further north, a Miami-Dade tested product down here is often the sensible buy rather than an upsell.

Every pane of glass comes down one road

US-1 and more than forty bridges, with no alternative route. That changes how a job has to be planned rather than how it is priced. A wrong measurement is not a quick return to the supply house, it is hours each way, and a delivery that misses its slot does not simply come tomorrow.

There is no inland option here, so the fixings decide everything

In every other Florida market a buyer can choose a property further from the water and pay less for it. In Monroe County that property does not exist. Every building is coastal, which means the anchoring and the substrate behind the frame matter on every job rather than only on the waterfront ones.

We measure, we schedule, and our own crews install

Most of this trade sells the job and hands the installation to whoever is free that week. We do not. On a job four hours from our yard that is not a philosophy, it is the only way the work gets done properly — the people who surveyed it are the people who fit it.

FAQ

Common questions

Are the Keys in the HVHZ?
No. The High Velocity Hurricane Zone covers Miami-Dade and Broward only. Monroe County works from statewide Florida Product Approval — while carrying the highest design wind speeds in the state.
So should I buy a Miami-Dade approved window?
Nothing requires it here, and unlike further north it is frequently the sensible choice, because the calculated pressures are the highest in Florida. Ask to see the calculation rather than buying to the label.
Why is a Keys quote higher than a mainland one?
Usually the corrosion specification and the single supply route rather than the glass. Every building in this county is coastal, so anchors, fixings and finishes cannot be specified down the way they can three miles inland elsewhere.
Are you local?
No. We are Fort Lauderdale based and work Monroe County in scheduled blocks with crews lodged locally. We would rather say that than claim an office we do not have.
